Audemars Piguet
A rare and attractive slim yellow gold open face watch, retailed by Cartier
Full-Cataloguing
- Rare example of Audemars Piguet timepiece retailed by Cartier
- Gifted to David Sarnoff, one of the founders of modern radio broadcasting
Elegant and slim, the present open face watch by Audemars Piguet was most notably retailed by Cartier, as seen on the dial and the Cartier hand stamped numbers on the bow. The dial is particularly very attractive with its two-tone appearance and Bauhaus style numerals. Most notably, both the movement and case are stamped with the same number, meaning the watch is presented in very original condition. The movement is furthermore stamped ROR meaning that it was meant for export.
Interestingly, the outside caseback has a presentation engraving stating "Presented to David Sarnoff by his Associates in RCA in Honor of his 40 Years of Achievements in Radio 1906 - September 30 - 1946. David Sarnoff (1891–1971) was a pioneering American businessman who helped shape the modern radio and television industries and is remembered as one of the founders of modern broadcasting. He is best known for leading Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and turning radio from a new invention into a mass communication medium.
