An octagonal case with an integrated bracelet—this is not the Royal Oak, yet it remains unmistakably part of the Audemars Piguet family. Meet the Bamboo, a spirited and distinctive creation born in the wake of the quartz crisis, when the manufacture embraced creative freedom and began exploring new aesthetic territories. Its design cleverly interprets the cylindrical form of bamboo stalks, reimagined in precious metal and brought to life through the maison’s masterful gem-setting capabilities.

The present example, crafted in yellow gold, features a rarely seen brilliant pavé diamond-set dial with ruby-set indexes that catches the light with dazzling elegance. It features a self-winding cal. 2130, introduced by the manufacturer in 1986.

Delivered with a digital Extract confirming its production year in 1989, this exceptionally well-preserved Bamboo stands as a charming and uncommon expression of Audemars Piguet’s post-crisis creativity—a timepiece that proves innovation need not always follow the expected path. To find one in such condition is a rare opportunity not to be missed.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881

A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.

Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
