Reference 15202 will come to be seen—if it isn’t already—as the defining Royal Oak of the early 21st century. Launched in the year 2000, it remained in production for more than two decades, being discontinued in 2022. The vast majority of production was in stainless steel, but forays into other metals exist, wonderfully exemplified by this watch.
Made in 250 pieces and released in 2018, the 15202IP (IP = Titanium Platinum) features a titanium and platinum case—two metals hardly ever seen together in watchmaking (or anywhere). The watch is transformed by the contrast of the gunpowder-hued titanium case body with the shine of the platinum bezel, and the effect is even more dramatic on the titanium bracelet with polished central links in platinum. Not only did Audemars modify the case material, but also the case finish: the connoisseur will immediately notice that the bezel, usually brushed on a Royal Oak, is mirror polished here, amplifying the contrast between materials.
Offered in lovely condition and complete with its original accessories, this is a rare opportunity for the collector to acquire one of the most delightful and uncommon variations of the iconic Royal Oak 15202.
Audemars Piguet
Swiss | 1881A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.
Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
