Catalogue Essay
- A move almost as radical as the “original” Genta design of 1972, Audemars Piguet launched the Royal Oak Offshore ref. 25721 at the 1993 Basel Watch Fair as a re-conception of the brand’s most iconic sports model. Staggering in size and proportions, Emmanuel Gueit’s creation measures an impressive 42mm diameter, resulting in its well-deserved nickname, “The Beast”. The gorgeous giant became increasingly popular among young collectors at the time and was famously seen on the wrist of the Italian alpine skiing champion, Alberto Tomba. The launch of the original “Beast” marked the beginning of the oversized sports watch hype for the next two decades.

- In honour of the game-changing ref. 25721ST, the manufacturer released a modern reissue counterpart 25 years later in 2018. The new and improved ref. 26237ST.OO.1000ST.01 is a modern machine built with today’s technology, allowing aficionados to enjoy and experience the original design without the shortcomings of the original. From the applied “AP” logo and tachymeter track, to the positions of the subdials with silver rings, each feature on the dial is virtually identical to the rich blue petite tapisserie dial on its predecessor.

- The case on both references are likewise indistinguishable, rocking the same 42mm octagonal stainless steel case with matching proportions and finishing. Furthermore, it retains the protection guard around the crown and the pushers. Unlike the standard issues of this generation, the 25th Anniversary model is fitted with a solid caseback that adheres closely to its inspiration, engraved with a “Royal Oak Offshore” logo. Under the hood sits the reliable in-house automatic cal. 3126/3840, instead of the cal. 2126 in the ref. 25721.

- Offered in “like-new” condition, the present Royal Oak Offshore, “The Beast” Re-edition is further accompanied by its original accessories.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881
A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.
Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
