- After spending almost a decade in Patek Philippe’s Atelier des Grandes Complications, Sven Anderson stepped into the world of independent watchmaking in 1980. Following the release of his first worldtimer, the subscription-based Communication 24, he launched the “Christophorus Columbus” two years later to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first voyage made by Christopher Columbus in 1492.
- Available in various precious metals, 300 pieces were made in yellow gold, 100 in white gold, 50 in pink gold and 50 in platinum. This present watch, in yellow gold, is numbered 481 out of 500 units produced.
- Inspired by Louis Cottier, also regarded as the father of worldtimer, Anderson worked on his own world time wristwatch, and with this present watch featuring the sea route of Columbus’ first voyage. The dial is adorned with the map in Chinese lacquer, applied with 24K yellow gold to mark Columbus’ route on the vibrant blue lacquered sea.
- Revolving the map is a cream and black chapter ring calibrated for 24 hours divided into diurnal and nocturnal hours respectively. The outermost rotatable ring marks 30 cities around the world. The caseback is decorated with an engraved astrolabe.
