  • Catalogue Essay

    - The present chronograph is the epitome of Silbersteins's design ethos, featuring the watchmaker and artist's liberal use of primary colors and geometrical forms. Launched in 1997, the Krono Medio Saphir was the first ever watch to be housed in a sapphire crystal case. While this material is widely used in watchmaking today, it was incredibly novel and daring at its launch, 27 years ago.

    - The Krono Medio Saphir was originally intended to be a limited series of 50 pieces; however, due to the high cost of production, it is believed that fewer actually left the manufacture. Two versions of the chronograph were made: a larger one with a Valjoux movement, and another with the Frederic Piguet caliber 1185 with column wheel and vertical clutch, such as the present example. The movement was notably customized for Silberstein, with a frosted finish along with blue, red and gold components.

    - The present watch is numbered 12 of a limited edition of 50 pieces and is both playful and historically relevant.
