Good to know:
- Dual-time wristwatch with subsidiary dial for local time
- Double day and night indications for both time zones
- Quick-set pushers for easy date and time zone adjustments

In 1994, the Lange 1 was one of the four original timepieces released in the modern revival of A. Lange & Söhne, not only marking the rebirth of the brand but also a showcase of elite Saxon watchmaking. The Lange 1 Time Zone ref. 116.025, initially released in 2005, was a broader expansion of the classic model.

The outsized date display and signature hands design show that the present watch is an A. Lange & Söhne timepiece through and through. Unlike most dual-time watches that indicate a second time zone with an additional hand, A. Lange & Söhne approached the matter with an entire subsidiary dial at 4 o’clock to indicate the local time. The small arrow within the subdial points to the city for which the local time is currently set. The watch also features two day and night indications for both local and home time. The quick-set pushers at 10 o’clock for date, and at 8 o’clock to quick set the city enable easy and convenient adjustments during travel, and the whole layout is highly legible.

The transparent case back reveals the captivating Lange movement L031.1, with the three-quarter plate beautifully chamfered and delicately decorated with Glashütte stripes, gold chatons, blued screws, red rubies, and exquisite engravings. This is further enhanced by the uniquely hand-engraved balance-cork with the classic Lange floral patterns.

Offered in excellent condition with its original accessories, this Lange 1 Time Zone is a remarkable piece representing German fine watchmaking. It is a watch to be admired, and a great travel companion.

A. Lange & Söhne

German | 1845

Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.

On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
