The present example stands out as one of the most elusive iterations of the model and can be considered one of its most refined, poetic and elegantly striking versions: the Lange 1 Soirée. Launched in 2001, the Soirée collection was designed to be the most sophisticated and formal iteration of the Lange 1, featuring a captivating mother-of-pearl dial. While many mother-of-pearl examples on the market are paired with guilloché dials, this particular watch is equipped with a smooth dial, achieving a timeless harmony.
Nearly identical in construction to the standard Lange 1, this model intriguingly sports a slightly thicker case (10.4 mm compared to the standard 9.8 mm). This adjustment accommodates the additional layer of mother-of-pearl applied to the silver dial plate. Furthermore, the longer pinions for the hands necessitated modifications to the movement, which is a testament to German precision. Consequently, the caliber name has also changed, and this piece is powered by the uncommon L901.4, rather than the typical L901.0 found in standard Lange 1 models.
Offered in excellent condition with its original guarantee, this piece has undergone a full service, including a movement overhaul and case refinishing in 2025. German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
