Catalogue Essay
• The Lange 1 and subsequent evolution is undoubtedly the collection best exemplifying not only the rebirth of A. Lange & Söhne but that of Saxon watchmaking. One of the original four timepieces released in 1994 by the reborn brand, the model features all the traits recognized with A. Lange & Söhne today with asymmetric dial layout, oversized date aperture, small seconds, power reserve and exceptional craftsmanship. In 2003 the Grande Lange 1 was released in a larger 41.9mm diameter case, reflecting a shift in the market towards larger sized timepieces.
• The reference 115.029 is part of the first generation of the Grande Lange 1 collection from the early 2000s and features a black dial with luminous hands and markers, which was a rarity for the brand at the time. Collectors often seen this model as an experimental timepiece leading to the “Lumen” series released ten years later in 2013. Produced in relatively low numbers, the present Grande Lange 1 has a quiet elegance with the black dial complementing the 18K white gold case. The watch has a modern aesthetic firmly rooted in the design of the brand.
• The present watch is in very good overall condition and complete with its accessories.

A. Lange & Söhne
German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
