Catalogue Essay
Something Lange doesn't get enough credit for is the perfect tone of their blue dials, evoking a rich blue sky. The geometry of the Arkade case is also very attractive, reminiscent of a jewel box. Finally, the well designed caseback with decorated rectangular movement is a testament to Lange's movement design. - Mark Cho

- The Arkade is one of four inaugural models introduced by A. Lange & Söhne at their first revival presentation on 24th October 1994. Originally designed for female collectors, the Arkade was born with its now-iconic stadium-shaped case that measures only 29mm long and 22.2mm wide. Highly coveted for its distinctive shape, its form-fitting movement within was also instantly recognised among connoisseurs and critics. Master watchmaker, Roger W. Smith, was moved by this perfectly moulded movement as he acknowledged the fact that his rectangular-shaped Series 1 was undoubtedly influenced by this exact model.
- Combining traditional Saxon craftsmanship with distinct A. Lange & Söhne proportions, this smaller model set the scene for the Grand Arkade, which launched in 2002, boasting augmented proportions measuring at 38mm x 29.5mm. Delivered in variants of platinum, yellow, white and pink gold, this larger model caters to collectors with larger wrists.
- Produced for only a short three years from 2002 to 2005, the blue dialled ref. 106.027 is among the rarest of Grand Arkades. Encased in white gold, the striking satin-finished blue dial is fitted with iconic outsized date apertures at 12 o’clock, counterbalanced with a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock.
- Powered by the manual-winding in-house caliber L911.4, the superlative finishings are continued in its movement and can admired through its sapphire caseback.
- Combining its rarity, unique form and attractive condition, the present Grand Arkade ref. 106.027 is a collector’s dream, designed to be worn everyday, destined to turn heads.

A. Lange & Söhne
German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
