The Grande Lange 1 expands the proportions of the original 38.5mm Lange 1 silhouette to a 41mm case diameter, providing a broader canvas for A. Lange & Söhne's asymmetric dial layout. This limited edition reference was created exclusively for the Parisian luxury retailer Dubail, combining the proportions of the Grande Lange 1 with the exotic dial aesthetic of the Lange 1 "Soirée". First introduced to the catalog in 2001, the Soirée series featured smooth or guilloché white mother-of-pearl dials across precious metal cases. For this Dubail edition, the mother-of-pearl is rendered with a distinct sky-blue iridescent hue.
The Dubail family’s enduring relationship with A. Lange & Söhne culminated in the opening of the brand's Rue de la Paix boutique in Paris in early 2013. Retailer commissioned limited editions are exceptionally rare in the German manufacture's modern history, underscoring the significance of this partnership. To commemorate the collaboration, the Dubail retailer name is explicitly engraved alongside the individual edition details on the caseback.
Featuring a sky-blue mother-of-pearl dial, expanded 41mm case geometry and limited retailer edition, this fresh to the market, well-preserved Dubail Grande Lange 1 numbered 22 represents an uber rare acquisition opportunity for collectors of contemporary A. Lange & Söhne timepieces.
A. Lange & Söhne
German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
