In 1994, Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein resurrected the famed A. Lange & Söhne brand with the unveiling of a new collection of exemplary timepieces: the Saxonia, Arkade, Tourbillon "Pour le Mérite" and Lange 1. Over the decades, these foundational wristwatches have evolved into modern icons, sought after by collectors for their precision timekeeping, masterful craftsmanship, and classic lines.
The reference 111.032, known as the "Little Lange 1" was introduced in 1998 in response to demand for a more compact profile, scaling the original 38.5mm case down to 36.1mm. The model preserves the hallmark asymmetric dial layout, featuring off-center hours and minutes at 9 o'clock, subsidiary seconds at 5 o'clock, a power reserve indication and the signature oversized date at 1 o'clock. To maintain a slender profile across the reduced dimensions, the prominent rectangular date pusher at 10 o'clock was replaced with a sleek corrector.
Rarely appearing at auction, the present 18K pink gold Little Lange 1 dates to circa 2000 and is offered in excellent overall condition.
A. Lange & Söhne
German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
