Since its launch in 1994, the Lange 1 has stood as an iconic cornerstone of the A. Lange & Söhne catalog. Celebrated for its distinctive design codes, this refined dress watch seamlessly blends traditional Saxon watchmaking with a contemporary, off-center display of undeniable charm.
Housed in a 38.5mm pink gold case, the present example is the Lange 1 reference 101.031. It features a striking early MIG black dial showcasing the model's signature asymmetric layout alongside the manufacture's patented outsized date window.
Visible through the sapphire caseback is the cal. L901.0, featuring a traditional three-quarter plate construction that delivers a 72-hour power reserve and includes a stop-seconds mechanism. Crafted from untreated German silver, the movement bridges have developed a unique, warm patina—a hallmark of natural aging that confers individual character upon the timepiece.
Presented in overall excellent condition with a subtle patina forming on the dial, this highly desirable reference 101.031 embodies A. Lange & Söhne's enduring vision of the perfect modern dress watch.
A. Lange & Söhne
German | 1845Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
