  • Catalogue Essay

This is one of the very first Lange designs when the brand was relaunched and it is a model I deeply wish they still made. Its 34mm diameter belies its impressive heft and confident design. The logo crossing straight across from 9 to 3 o'clock while the date and sub seconds sit at 12 and 6 speaks loudly that in terms of design, Lange wants to go its own way. - Mark Cho

To the new owners of the watches in the sale: The Armoury will custom-make the winner one of The Armoury’s signature garments as a gift. For further details please visit the link below.

    - First released in 1994 as part of A. Lange & Söhne's revival entourage, the Saxonia bears an undeniably charismatic design that has withstood the test of time and is still very much sought-after today. The model has since evolved into a collection of elegant dress watches, boasting elegant and divine proportions distinct to the Saxon manufacturer.

    - The present example is a yellow gold ref. 105.022, featuring a stunning symmetrical champagne dial with A. Lange & Söhne's signature outsized date apertures, counterbalanced by a small seconds subdial.

    - Elegantly refined both inside and out, the sapphire caseback proudly presents its immaculately finished hand-wound cal. L941.3, a movement that is as technically sound as it is a sight to behold. With its ¾ baseplate, hand-embellished balance cock and a combination of other finishing touches, it is no surprise collectors hold the German giants and their timepieces to such high regard.

  • Artist Biography

    A. Lange & Söhne

    German • 1845

Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.

On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
