  • Catalogue Essay

    - Officially introduced in 2014, the A. Lange & Söhne model 1815 can be considered to be the apogee of a sportsman’s dress watch. At launch, the model was made available in three metals; yellow, pink and white gold.

    - Fitted with an 18k white gold case, third generation A. Lange & Söhne model 1815 saw a noticeable and pleasant case size reduction from the previous 40mm to 38.5mm in diameter. Such a reduction gives the timepiece a pleasant new modern look. Other noticeable differences with early generation model 1815 are the stepped bezel and the “made in germany” inscription now right below the seconds sub-dial, rather than below the minute track, like in previous models.

    - Impressive in its execution and attention to detail, inside beats possibly one of the most beautiful in-house, hand-wound movement, caliber L051.1. Finely decorated with its signature hand etched balance cock, the movement is a testament and constant reminder that German watchmaking can keep up with, if not even surpass, the best that fine Swiss watchmaking has to offer.

    - Offered in excellent overall condition and complete with its full set of accessories, the present A. Lange & Söhne reference 233.026 is a wonderful addition to any collection, both for its elegance and technical excellence.

  • Artist Biography

    A. Lange & Söhne

    German • 1845

Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.

On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
