The Omega reference 145.022-69 is the last “Pre-Moon” iteration as it was designed before the first moon landing in July 1969, but only launched in December 1969 and in production until around 1971. The first models were produced with the instantly recognizable Hippocampus logo and brand name on the back, while subsequent versions made reference to the moon landing.

The present timepiece is extremely rare thanks to three notable particularities. Firstly, the name of the prominent retailer “Tiffany & Co.” is printed in white right under the model name “Speedmaster Professional”, bestowing upon the watch a sense of exclusivity. In addition, the present example belongs to the last batch of the reference 145022-69 ST in which the caseback makes no reference to the moon landing. The present watch has the Hippocampus engraved on the case back which was later replaced by the engraved inscription "first watch worn on the moon" - known by collectors as “straight writing”. Thirdly, the present watch is fitted with the correct “Dot over 90” bezel.

According to the archival information from Omega, the watch was manufactured in 1970 and delivered to the retailer Tiffany & Co. in the USA. To the best of our knowledge, only 3 examples of the reference 145.022-69 with Tiffany signature have appeared on the market.

    Omega

    Swiss • 1848

Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.

Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
