In conjunction with the retrospective ED RUSCHA / NOW THEN at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, PhillipsX is pleased to present Written In The Sky, a selection of works by the artist spanning a wide variety of mediums.
Since the 1960s, Ed Ruscha has immortalized his home of Los Angeles, and more broadly the West Coast, through his inimitable brand of Pop Art. The tension between specificity and abstraction that Ruscha achieves echoes that of the text, which teeters on recognition but remains elusive.
Written In The Sky seeks to showcase the clever balance Ed Ruscha establishes through word play and the relationship of words and phrases within time and space.
