Constructed of hollow textured bronze, the Bertoia family affectionately referred to the present lot as the "Bongos" given its tubular form and resemblance to drums. A drawing listed in the Harry Bertoia Catalogue Raisonné shows that this sculpture was a prototype for a much larger sculpture which may or may not have been completed.
