In December 1915, Kandinsky joined his then partner, Gabriele Münther, in Stockholm, where he spent three months executing a series of six, mostly abstract etchings, each in an edition of ten. These small etchings were then exhibited alongside a series of bagatelle ink drawings at Carl Gummeson Konsthandel for the month of February 1916. In the accompanying exhibition brochure, the avant-garde artist and writer, Gösta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN), described Kandinsky's etchings as containing the inner vibration of the artist's soul, which had the ability to develop an echoing vibration in the soul of the spectator through the use of expressive lines, which became "the electric wires between the sender (the artist) and the receiver (the spectator)".
