  • Herbert and Tom was created in 2011 on a vintage Calcomp drum plotter on A3 size paper which was trimmed to fit on the original plotter drum. It depicts an algorithmic portrait of Herbert W. Franke and Tomislav Mikulić, based on a photograph taken of the two artists in Bremen in 2007. Mikulić's use of cubes in perspective is deeply symbolic and nostalgic, as Franke included a drawing generated by this same concept in the catalogue of the first Ars Electronica exhibition in 1979 in Linz. More than 25 years after Ars Electronica, the artists reunited in Bremen, to celebrate the opening of Ex-Machina, the exhibition of computer graphic drawings from Franke's collection which was donated to the Kunsthalle Bremen.
