Tim Flach has become renowned for his highly stylised animal portraits, which are far removed from traditional wildlife photography’s representation of animals observed in their natural habitat. Spirit, offered here, is an elegant portrait of a dove spreading its wings from the series More Than Human.

Tim Flach (b.1958) is interested in the way humans endow animals with subjective meaning through an anthropocentric lens. Over the course of his career, Flach has produced four major bodies of work: Equus (2008), focusing on the horse, Dogs Gods (2010) on canines, More Than Human (2012), a broad exploration of the world’s species, and Endangered (2017), a powerful document of species on the edge of extinction. Flach is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from University of the Arts London in 2013.
