“To form the burst of bubbles in [these prints], Donovan used a straw to blow air into a mix of ferric chloride solution and liquid soap; she then picked up the bubbles with a spoon and laid them on a copper plate prepared with an aquatint ground She left the bubbles on the plate until they popped or dissolved, making grooves of varied depths that created sections of lighter or darker tones when printed. The resulting composition playfully preserves an otherwise ephemeral phenomenon.”
