Born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1994, Suanjaya Kencut studied and graduated from Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta to pursue his childhood dream of being an artist. Early in his career, the artist started incorporating historic Balinese elements into his work, before venturing into sculptures and installations.

The artist compares life to a doll, with eyes being the window to the soul. He depicts his instantly recognised dolls with big button eyes participating in real-life situations amidst colourful backdrops, inviting viewers to experience the work without any preconceptions for an elevated emotional experience.
Kencut has been shown works since 2012, with latest exhibitions include solo show Unlimited Frames at Lorin Gallery, Los Angeles (2 September – 1 October 2022), and Repeat at ARTSPACE, ARTOTEL Gajahmada, Semarang (12 March – 12 April 2020). His works have also been featured in group exhibitions such as Otherwordly at Mucciaccia Gallery, London (8 June - 30 September 2022), and Dream Big at GR Gallery, New York (14 April – 7 May 2022).
