‘David Bowie and I had many discussions, over the phone before we shot, about what kind of visuals we would create. He suggested creating a visual story based on Jean Genet’s Our Lady of the Flowers. All covers usually have a specific fashion credit – this one was Prada. I was having a lot of trouble because the Prada suit did not seem to work in the picture. David made a very quick and clever suggestion and turned the jacket inside out, revealing the label on his front left pocket. It was his way of saying, “they want to see a label, here it is.”’
