With an established heritage of Finnish artisanal jewellery, Stepan Sarpaneva is the son of accomplished Finnish jewellery designer, Pentti Sarpaneva. With a keen eye for craftsmanship, Stepan Sarpaneva has worked alongside with some of the most important watchmakers of our generation including the likes of Vianney Halter, Michel Parmigiani and Christophe Claret. In 2003, Sarpaneva started his own journey in watchmaking by establishing his very own brand.
In 2020, S.U.F Sarpaneva Helsinki celebrates the 75th anniversary of the popular Finnish comic Moomin illustrated by illustrator Tove Jansson. The collaboration was produced in a total of 75 pieces made in three variants in either blue, steel or gold hands. Inspired by the original black and white illustration by Jansson, Sarpaneva injected his inventiveness and technical finesse to the fairytale of Moominvalley. The timepiece paid more than just a homage to the cartoon but surely a statement to the industry of implementing Super-Luminova as a form of art instead of applying it to tell time in the dark.
Extremely well-received by collectors worldwide, Sarpaneva launched another limited run of Moomin-themed watches in 2021. Featuring a different motif and a case composed of high quality Outokumpu steel reminiscent of Sarpaneva timepieces, the same skeletonized luminous dial was interpreted once again in this generation two limited edition. With its crown positioned at 4 o’clock the self-winding rotor displayed through its sapphire display caseback does not lack the firm’s signature angry Moonface with luminous-filled eyes and mouth.
Offered in excellent overall condition, complete with its full set of accessories and fresh-to-the-market offered by the original owner from Finland, the present timepiece is definitely one not to miss out on.
