The Rolex Day-Date was first introduced in 1956 and was immediately associated to the luxury glitz and glamour witnessed on the wrist of presidents and celebrities. Regarded as an icon for success, the Day-Date remains in production till date and still serves its purpose as the luxurious Rolex wristwatch. Popular and monumental, the Day-Date offers a wide array of variants to cater to the ever changing taste of collectors, with example featuring different dial colors, materials and configurations and its case in various materials as well as gem-set examples too.
The ref. 1803 was launched by Rolex in 1960 and remained in production until 1978 and is regarded as one of the most important Day-Date references powered by self-winding cal. 1555 and 1556 for later examples. The present example in 18K yellow gold features an attractive “chocolate” brown dial that harmoniously synchronizes with the tone of the case.
