  • Catalogue Essay

Released in 2007, the Richard Mille reference RM011 is a watch that was advanced and developed with legendary Formula 1 racer Felipe Massa. This timepiece is nothing short of a cutting-edge technology machine. It is equipped with a skeletonised automatic winding movement, variable geometry rotor offering hours, minutes, seconds, a flyback chronograph and annual calendar. Alike the Ferrari he was driving when this watch was lunched, this Richard Mille with Titanium and 18k rose gold tonneau case showcases extraordinary adaptability, classic design and practical wearability. Coincidentally, Massa in his career, amongst countless podiums, secured 11 Grand Prix victories, sharing the same number reference as this watch.

The present chronograph, limited to 150 pieces in pink gold/titanium was made to commemorate Richard Mille's partnership the Le Mans Classic race as sponsor and official timekeeper.

In very appealing condition, with a titanium and 18k rose gold case, the truly remarkable aspect of this RM011 is its dial. With a curved bezel, sides, and case back the Le Mans classic green, present on the outer tachymeter, contrasts powerfully with the rose gold case. A true homage to motor racing’s history, Le Mans and Felipe Massa, this watch here is a must have piece for any true collector that appreciates mechanical movements as much as twelve-cylinder piston engines with perfect engine balance.

    Richard Mille

    Swiss • 1999

Established in 1999, Richard Mille's ultra-modern timepieces combine cutting-edge materials from high performance worlds such as Formula 1 racecars with high-end traditional watchmaking. The brand's revolutionary designs, technical breakthroughs and exceptional hand-finishing excite even the most discriminating collectors, and have positioned Richard Mille alongside the top makers of the modern luxury watch world.

Innovative watches, such as the RM 027 Tourbillon, which was the world’s lightest mechanical watch when introduced in 2011, have helped the brand invert the concept of the luxury watch. Key models include the RM 009 Tourbillon cased in Aluminum Silicon Carbide (AlSiC), the RM 027-02 Tourbillon made for tennis star Rafael Nadal with a case made from quartz and carbon fiber and the RM 008 split seconds chronograph.
