  • Catalogue Essay

The trio known as Radi Designers consists of Laurent Massaloux, Olivier Sidet and Robert Stadler. They create scenarios within their designs which often deposit the user in a misleadingly familiar situation. These situations carry the user into another realm, allowing the person to experience a scene which references commonplace personal experiences, while also adding elements which jumble this experience into something new, different and thought-provoking. The “Sleeping Cat” carpet places the user in a middle-class living room, complete with fireplace and feline. This experience, however, has other sensations built into it: the heat radiating from the warm wool carpet rather than the fireplace and the two-dimensional cat, which the perception of this experience from a familiar one to a one which alters your original expectations.
