American-born Charles de Temple was an unlikely jeweler. He grew up touring the country with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus from the age of five. By 14, de Temple was on his own, singing in nightclubs and even acting in Hollywood Westerns. Eventually ending up in Provincetown, Massachusetts, he began making jewelry inspired by the natural setting as well as the artists who surrounded him in Provincetown. Continuing his jewelry career, he also lived and worked in England.
