  • Catalogue Essay

According to Paul Strand authority Anthony Montoya, Strand made two negatives of the subject pictured here, Ewan MacLeod. The version offered here is the one that Strand selected for inclusion in Tir a’Mhurain, his definitive 1962 book on his Outer Hebrides work of the 1950s. Mr. Montoya has located only two other prints of this image: a contact print in a private collection, and an enlargement in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
