  • Catalogue Essay

Known for a diverse range of work including large-scale and site-specific installations, sculpture, and photography, Olafur Eliasson’s art often explores the ephemeral qualities of atmosphere and environment. The Weather Project at the Tate Modern in 2003, filled the open space of the gallery''s Turbine Hall with representations of the sun and sky. Beginning in 1997 Eliasson photographed and documented specific natural sites, and arranged the prints in a grid, as is Park Series. He reveals Nature’s ever-changing geological and topographical character. “Shifting patterns of light, shape, and color emerge when pictures hang side by side, and specifics of a single image give way to an overall subtlety and abstraction.” A. Darsie, New Photography 14, New York, 1998, www.moma.org
