Catalogue Essay
MOS, the New York-based architecture studio led by Michael Meredith and Hillary Sample, designed the present table as part of their “Model Furniture” series. In this series, the designers take architectural models as their reference point. They have taken a range of furniture types—from tables to ladders, shelving units, chairs, and cabinets—and reimagined these models as life-size objects. For example, the present table is the multi-step translation of an initial table into a model and then into a table again; the designers describe this process as a “reproduction of reproductions of reproductions.” The aluminum table is also powder-coated in shimmering colors, lending a subtle yet playful element to the surface of this otherwise conceptual project.
