Catalogue Essay
In a city where the only way to build is up, Michael Wolf depicts the immensity of Hong Kong’s architecture. Using specific stylistic devices to eliminate horizon and sky, Wolf creates a metaphor for the megacity; the vastness of the buildings remains elusive to our eyes. Works from this series featured in his recent major retrospective at the Fotomuseum den Haag, The Hague (20 January – 22 April 2018), and was premiered during the 2017 Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles.
