Depicting moments of extraordinary resilience and achievement, Michael Kagan’s works commemorate the depths of human potential.
Saturated in fiery red, Nürburgring IX belongs to a series of 18 works illustrating the horror and theatricality of Formula 1 racing car driver Niki Lauda’s near-fatal crash during the 1976 German Grand Prix. The present lot acts as a snapshot immortalising Lauda’s practice lap before the momentous race, presenting to the viewer a scene symbolic of his indomitable spirit. The present work has been exhibited in Lauda at Gana Art Nineone, Seoul.
Michael Kagan lives and works in New York, United States. His latest solo exhibition Victory Lap at Almine Rech, Monaco (22 May – 22 June 2024), features racing car drivers as the subject matter.
