In its international debut and limited to a small edition size of 50, the present lot is a striking example of celebrated artist Matt Gondek’s signature deconstructed aesthetic. Known for his unique reinterpretations of pop-culture heroes, the artist’s most iconic character is Mickey Mouse. Rendered here in a polished white, Disney’s mascot appears to disintegrate before the viewer’s eyes. Despite being cast in bronze, solid metal appears to burst off the cartoon character’s face. As Gondek has only previously constructed figures in vinyl, the explosive nature of the work is thus exemplary of the artist’s matured technical mastery.

Gondek’s instantly identifiable practice features not only on city-street murals (including at numerous locations in Hong Kong) but has also featured in exhibitions internationally.
