Best known for her lush figurative paintings, Kathy, 2005, is a rare photograph by New York based artist Lisa Yuskavage. The central figure of Kathy is notably included in Yukskavage’s oeuvre starting in 1998, appearing in 14 artworks, canvases, and as on offer here, an oversized, unique Polaroid print. The formalist qualities of Yuskavage’s art are often contrasted with sensual subjects that shock, or, as with the present lot, a quiet, nearly uncomfortable moment of contemplation.
