  • “Most of my tales seek to explore the stories of human nature. Like humans, these characters too share tales of hope, of disappointment, and of love.
    — Kasing Lung

The present lot Mon by Kasing Lung is a vibrant immersion into the artist's distinctive world, where his cherished characters come to life with a vivid, joyous energy. Born in Hong Kong and raised in the Netherlands, Lung's unique background informs his creations, blending the whimsy of European folklore with the spontaneity of a child's imagination.

Mon showcases Lung's signature character, Labubu, alongside a playful ensemble of his characters, each rendered with the artist's characteristic blend of storytelling charm and street art's dynamic flair. The painting's backdrop embraces the viewer, setting a stage that is both inviting and intimate, much like a family portrait reimagined through the eyes of a modern fabulist.

Lung's exploration into painting enriches his established reputation as an illustrator and toy designer. The same joy that Labubu brought to its fans as a collectible figure now radiates from the canvas, affirming Lung's place in the contemporary art scene. His characters, though flat and stylised, possess a depth of character that speaks to the enduring appeal of folklore and legend in our collective childhood memories.

Notably, the artist will be holding a solo exhibition Everybody Knows at Landmark Hong Kong from 26 March to 17 April. Having been featured in prestigious galleries, including This is What It Feels Like, Hidari Zingaro, 2020, Lung's work continues to enchant, bridging the gap between commercial success and artistic innovation.
