Joy Labinjo - New Now New York Wednesday, March 3, 2021 | Phillips
  • "I was studying in Newcastle and making paintings. It wasn’t a very multicultural city, and I went home, found a family photo album, and brought it back. It’s the fact that [the photos] were a mix between Nigeria and London; I found it interesting how sometimes you couldn’t tell which was which. I realized it was quite a good way for me to find black figures, just painting black people doing everyday things. —Joy Labinjo
