  • This print of Joe Rosenthal’s definitive image of World War II came originally from the collection of Kay Kyle, who worked for the Red Cross in the South Pacific, and was kept by Ms. Kyle in an album which included other images of her time on Iwo Jima. This print is distinguished by the presence of the insignia for the 5th Marine Division, the division which raised the flag atop Mount Suribachi 23 February 1945, signaling the heroic capture of this strategic stronghold.
