  • Catalogue Essay

The perpetual calendar wristwatch is one of the most complex yet elegant complications that a timepiece can bear, even more so when Kurt Klaus decided that he wanted all adjustments to be made via the crown instead of correctors attached to the caseband in an era where the computer was merely just an infant. Extremely hard to execute requiring meticulous calculations and micro engineering, IWC released the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar ref. 3570 in 1985.

Extremely successful after its initial launch, the IWC ref. 3570 was one of the most practical and easy-to-use perpetual calendar wristwatches available in the market and further features a chronograph complication. Furthermore, powered by a self-winding cal. 79261 with a Valjoux 7750 base, the feature made the timepiece one of the most attractive in terms of value as it was one of the most accessibly priced perpetual calendar wristwatches available in the market at the time. With a case design inspired from Leonardo Da Vinci’s recurring circles, the model was named the Da Vinci. Well-received by the community, IWC continued to enhance the model, which remains in production till date.

The present IWC Da Vinci ref. 3750 in stainless steel fitted with a black dial and bracelet, is offered in attractive overall condition and is further accompanied by the full set of accessories.
