The Skull by HYT is probably not the most practical wristwatch manufactured in recent times but certainly one that is far more interesting than your usual timepiece. Established in 2012, HYT is one of the youngest independent firms to appear on the scene. With that said, the brand has catapulted themselves to the spotlight of the competitive scene of independents by stunning the community with their innovative approach to tell time through an unusual retrograde-style fluid hours. With astounding success, HYT launched their very first timepiece in the same year of the firm’s establishment, the H1 and was awarded the Innovation Watch Prize at the 2012 GPHG.

After gaining success over their first timepiece featuring retrograde fluid hours developed by master watchmaker Jean-François Mojon and Preciflex, HYT introduced the Skull series in 2015. Taking inspiration from the H1, the Skull, however only tells the hours without a dial depicting minutes. Encased in the large 51mm titanium case is a skull that fill almost the entire dial with hollowed eyes and mouth to feature the power reserve and the two reservoirs pushes or retracts the liquid from the glass tube. Extremely hard to execute, the Skull is lined with a glass tube that indicates the hours. Differing from the H1, the glass tube featured on the skull involves angles and curves, while the H1 features a glass tube that is perfectly round. Technically sound with a cool and unusual skull to complete the watch, the present timepiece displays the daring minds to overcome traditional horological boundaries.
