  • Painted in 2020, Rayol Without Me elicits a moment of deep introspection and immediately transports viewers into a state of pure bliss. Characterised by Guy Yanai’s signature style of smooth yet fragmented strokes, the present work features a pair of sliding doors that glide open to an expansive balcony vista, overlooking the tranquil and idyllic coastal landscape of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer in southern France. Best known for reimagining his peaceful scenes as geometric blocks of vivid colours, the artist achieves this result through his meticulous wielding of a palette knife and brush – creating an illusion of depth in contrast to its flattened imagery. Rendered in a radiating palette of pastel hues, Yanai captures the very essence of joie de vivre. Upon close inspection, observers are drawn to fixate their gaze on the pixelated segments of the composition. When viewed from afar, these fragments adjoin harmoniously to conjure a visual snapshot that is bordered by lush foliage, encompassing a striking seascape where the azure sky meets the glistening ripples of the water.

Yanai’s works have been featured within numerous solo exhibitions, including, In the shadow of young girls in flower (2022), Kônig Galerie, Berlin and The Things of Life (2021), Miles McEnergy Gallery, New York. The artist’s most recent paintings were exhibited in the group show The Body Electric at Larsen Warner, 20 January – 16 March 2024. His works are also held in public and private collections including: Haifa Museum of Art, Tel Avivi Museum of Art, Rema Hort Mann Foundation, New York, Jose Mugrabi Collection, M Art Center, Shanghai, Drake Collection, Wassenaar and Anita Zabludowicz Collection, London.
