  • Catalogue Essay

Launched in 2001, the Octa movement is one of F.P. Journe’s earliest creations, perfectly encapsulating the seamless blend of contemporary watchmaking with traditional 19th-century horology. Much like diamonds, the playful yet timeless design of the Octa Divine is made to last forever.

The delicately frosted Octa Divine was launched in 2003. Measuring only 36mm in diameter, it is destined to embrace patrons with narrower wrists or a more traditional taste in classic dress watches. As the first “jewellery” model of the line, it was delivered in three different diamond settings and was subsequently discontinued in 2021.

Enthralled by its diamond-set case, the scene is set for the flawless grey dial with moon phases at 7 o’clock, power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock and large date aperture between 11 and 12 o’clock. Opting for a clean, legible display, the dial is further framed by a white hour chapter ring with an integrated sub-seconds register at 5 o’clock, and an outer minute track that holds the embossed Arabic numerals.

While the present timepiece is undeniably attractive on the outside, its movement almost outshines its blinding façade. Fashioned from solid 18K pink gold with hand-finished Côtes de Genève, the in-house cal. 1300.3 is a perpetual dream that drives the watch for 120 hours via the ingenious off-centre rotor in 22K gold. Every effortless shift of the wrist is used for the optimised winding of the watch.

This specific format for the Octa Divine was recently discontinued after a long run, which means the only option to find a diamond-set Octa Divine these days is on the secondary market – and they don’t come up too often. A more recent version of the Divine was released in 2016, but it only comes in 40mm or 42mm and with zero listed diamond-setting options. Offered in excellent overall condition with its original purchase invoice, the present Octa Divine is an exquisite example of the Jewellery Collection, shining with a double lustre of F.P. Journe’s distinct design DNA and mechanical prowess.

  • Artist Biography

    F.P. Journe

    Swiss • 1999

Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
