Catalogue Essay
‘For me the real interest and the real strength, the ultimate importance of sculpture at this moment, is that the encounter is direct and it’s with the body and the eye united.’ Eva Rothschild.
In Eva Rothschild’s geometric work the tenets of Minimalism are evident, her anthropomorphic pieces demonstrating her artistic experimentation with torsion and texture, form and colour. Her sculptural practice incorporates a range of materials, including wood, aluminium, jesmonite, leather, fabric and Perspex. Selected to represent Ireland in the 58th Venice Biennale, Rothschild’s work is currently being celebrated on an international stage in her presentation The Shrinking Universe in Venice.
