Catalogue Essay
With Qing Chair (2015), Enrico Marone Cinzano reinterpreted the Qing style with modern decorative aspects. He combined this with inspiration from tattoos, especially those seen on traditional sailors, which represents a defined period and attitude of Western exploration and adventure. He used old Chinese joinery techniques on reclaimed, hand carved elm wood beams, that have not been chemically treated, and finished with beeswax and natural lacquer. Behind Qing Chair is also the modern concept of flat pack furniture, which has lead the designer to develop a system that has resulted in a patent of invention.
Born in 1963, the Italian designer and entrepreneur gives a sustainable take on furniture, creating eco-friendly and durable pieces that are visually sculptural and modern. He looks to Nature for inspiration, using bio mimicry and the Golden Ratio, as well as the Fibonacci sequence as his guiding lights.
