  • “The Animal Heroes arise from my intention to create pictures of denunciation in favour of the environment, to denounce the human actions that contaminate, destroy and poke the planet. In turn these heroes have simple powers that today’s society is losing as they are solidarity, companionship, respect… and these animals through art and their actions want to reintroduce people.”
    — Edgar Plans

Spanish urban-inspired artist Edgar Plans has catapulted to international acclaim for his instantly recognisable 'Animal Heroes', which at first glance exude childlike innocence with their rounded mouse-ears and large, bright eyes as they play in his graffiti-illustrated utopia. Contrastingly, however, Plans uses his signature motif as a vessel to explore complex socio-political concerns including issues of racism, gender equality, and climate change. In the present work, handwritten phrases including ‘Love What You Do, Do What You Love’, ‘Free Mind’, ‘No Rules’, ‘No Limits’ and ‘Feel You Soul’ reach out to the viewer as messages of encouragement, uplifting the artist’s audience as he welcomes them into his wishes and thoughts.

Plans has most recently presented solo shows at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (2021); Almine Rech, Paris (2021), Alzueta Gallery, Barcelona (2019); along with an exhibition pop-up in Hong Kong at K11 Musea (2021). The artist’s top result at auction was recently set in November 2021 by Phillips in Association with Poly Auction in Hong Kong, when Aliens (2020) hammered down for HK$2,520,000 Premium against pre-sale estimates of HK$500,000 – 700,000.
