Dexter Dalwood’s startling and enigmatic paintings celebrate and push the medium’s boundaries of memory and communication. Heaven was unveiled at 'London Paintings', Dalwood's first exhibition at Simon Lee Gallery, London in 2015. Presenting the viewer with new and unexpected narratives in the settings of a familiar and iconic city, specific sites are reconstructed from fragments of memories, cultural and political histories, and past depictions of the city. The resulting image re-invents contemporary history painting, bridging interpretations of the past, present and that which has yet to happen.
In 2010 Dexter Dalwood was shortlisted for the Turner Prize. Represented by Gagosian, his work can be found in distinguished public collections, including the Tate and the Saatchi Gallery.
