Wheat, as a universal symbol of prosperity and abundance, occupies a special place in Coco Chanel’s heart. It harks back to her working class roots, where harvest time coincided with her birthday in August, as well as her few happy childhood memories in the wheat fields of southwestern France with her father. Her apartment in Rue Cambon was also adorned with a bronze wheat table made by Robert Goossens.
