  • Catalogue Essay

Introduced in 2006, the present pink gold reference 15202 is known for housing the celebrated automatic calibre 2121, which was created in 1970 as a derivative of the calibre 2120. The aperture-type date display raised the movement thickness to 3.05 mm, making it the world's thinnest mechanical selfwinding movement with a central rotor and date at the time. From 1970 and until its replacement by the calibre 7121 in 2022, the calibre 2121 has been one of the most essential attributes of the Royal Oak "Jumbo" model.

The present reference 15202OR is marked by the signature guilloché Grande Tapisserie pattern on the white dial, which glimmers with a silver tone under different lighting conditions, with the AP logo positioned at the 12 o’clock. The pink gold monocoque case, with a 50-meter water resistance has retained the classic proportions, while its sapphire case back highlights the beauty of the movement beneath the revolving skeletonised 21-carat oscillating weight on ruby rollers.

Preserved in attractive condition, the present example is fitted with an integrated pink gold bracelet that fits nicely on the wrist, making it a highly wearable luxury sports watch. It is further delivered with an Audemars Piguet Extract from the Archives confirming the register date of the present timepiece on May 2008.

    Audemars Piguet

    Swiss • 1881

A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.

Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
