Catalogue Essay
First introduced in 1993, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore is yet another important milestone by the firm. For the first time, it incorporated a chronograph function with date, pumped up 42mm diameter case and the original example released (The Beast) featured a navy blue dial in stainless steel with bracelet. Contemporizing the fathomed Royal Oak, the Offshore iteration was immediately well-received and was an instant success. Since its initial launch, the Offshore has witnessed over hundreds of variations, collaborations and editions.

The present example belongs to one of the most interesting iterations of the Royal Oak Offshore and is named the Survivor. Introduced in 2008 in the midst of the global financial crisis, the name is certainly ironic and hence controversial due to its peculiar design and purpose. Launched as a limited edition of 1,000 pieces, the Survivor will always be distinct due to its notable oversized chronograph pusher guards. With a design resembling a timepiece that one would imagine on the wrist of “The Rock” or “Arnold Schwarzenegger” in an action packed motion picture, the Survivor is definitely built to survive.

The present example numbered 655 is accompanied by the original warranty dated 2009 and its original presentation box.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881
A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.
Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
